At the beginning of a new year we often resolve to loose a little weight, to quit smoking, to spend more time with our families. All these goals are admirable and if you actually achieve them then hats off to you. But this January, while you are making your list for the year use some of that motivation and energy to make goals for your home.

I found a great article over at house logic that easily translates your new years resolutions into goals and game changes for your home. To add to their list I have made a few resolutions that apply to your roof.

1. Clean out your gutters in the spring and fall. Consider installing gutter screens to protect your gutters and make cleaning a breeze.

2. Have your roof inspected. If your roof is 15-20 years old have it inspected to make sure there isn’t damage going on that you are unaware of.

3. Check the ceilings and eves in your home for signs of leaking- water stains, paint peeling, warping etc.

Good luck with your resolutions and Happy New Year from Roofmax!

Go here to see the original article posted by house logic.

While we’ve been enjoying this sunny December weather other western states have had to battle strong windstorms.

In one such state, Utah, the battle seemed to go beyond the storm. While neighbors and friends gathered to clean up broken tree branches and fallen debris, scam artists posing as contractors approached home owners offering to fix their damaged homes for a fee.

Homeowners were warned by the Utah department of commerce to exercise care in selecting a contractor to repair their home.

Three ways you can prevent getting taken advantage of are

1. Ask for the contractors license number and look it up to see if they are indeed licensed.
2. Ask for their credentials or for some referrals of other home owners they have worked with.
3. Never pay up front in cash.

In times of need it is important to remember that not everyone has your best interest at heart. Protect your home and family by choosing a licensed, experienced, contractor.

When counting your blessings this week don’t forget to be grateful for the roof over your head. Having a safe place to protect your family should be one of your most important priorities. Often it isn’t until your roof begins to leak that you find yourself being grateful for the shelter you once had. So don’t wait until your roof leaks to appreciate it. One of the easiest ways to take care of your roof is to maintain and clean it every year.

If you are having a hard time being grateful for your roof this season, then call Roofmax to help give you a roof you can be proud of.
